As it was in the past

Education was introduced in Bangladesh by aristocratic and wealthy families. 'Pathshala-based' institutions set up by them are considered as the basis of institutional education in the country. People from affluent families used to get involved in teaching profession at the time. Over time, transitions have taken place in country's education system.

History of Payment system of teachers

There was no salary in the country for teachers before 1944. In 1944, in face of teachers' demand, then education minister announced a monthly salary of Tk 5 for school teachers. Early sixties, the monthly salary for teachers was fixed at Tk 20.

The government led by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman first took the move of nationalising the education system in the war-ravage country in phases. Bangabandhu government started giving monthly Tk 100 for non-government college teachers and Tk 75 for non-government school teachers from the state exchequer.

When the education system come into discipline somewhat

With the rising economic development and passage of time, the importance of education started increasing in Bangladesh. As a result, the number of educational institutions was on the rise.

Consequently, multiple trends were created in the education system. The government led by Sheikh Hasina started to formulate and implement a long-cherished education system in 2010. For this reason, the education system has come into discipline somewhat.

98 percent educational institutions in the country are run in private . There are around 30 thousand MPO-listed schools, colleges and technical educational institutions in the country. Besides, there are seven thousand institutions outside the MPO scheme. The teachers of the institutions don't get salary from the government. There is a big financial discrimination between government and non-government teachers in Bangladesh. Though teachers under the MPO scheme get 100 percent salary under the national pay scale, there are discrimination in house rent, medical allowance, festival allowance etc.

Lack of budget for development teachers and education

Though Bangladesh has made significant strides in the economic arena, the country couldn't ensure sufficient budgetary allocation for education. The successive governments couldn't allocate more than 2.3-2.4 percent of the GDP, which is much below the world standard rate.
